NASA UNO Research Administration Building
New Orleans, LA
The new $28,000,000 building will be located on the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility (MAF) which manufactures components for the space program, including the Saturn boosters and the external fuel tank of the Space Shuttle. The building will provide space for NASA and contractor support, UNO's School of Engineering, and the National Center for Advanced Manufacturing (NCAM) offices. A large, flexible multi-purpose auditorium will seat 400 people in a classroom style and 200 people when tables are arranged in the space. A variety of events will be hosted in the 3,000 SF space including seminars, social functions, educational functions, product exhibits, etc. Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects, along with Wolfberg Alvarez & Partners from Coral Gables, FL, are designing the building with a goal of achieving LEED Silver Certification. The project is on a fast-track schedule with an anticipated completion date of August 2010.
